Internet Explorer (IE) is still the most widely used browsers yet their IE6 is the most obsolete and still having a 15.6% market share. Quoted from IE6update.com “IE6 is like an illness that just won’t go away.” Glad that our web developers have great medicines to cure this illness. You may have noticed some of these around the Internet. I compiled some of these campaigns and websites spreading to kill, stop and bring down IE6. Some of them are providing a really nifty script and cool badges that can be posted in your site.
http://www.bringdownie6.com/ – “… Internet Explorer 6 is antiquated, doesn’t support key web standards, and should be phased out. “
http://ie6update.com/ – “… Internet Explorer 6 is the plague of the Internet…”
http://www.end6.org/ – “… and there are a number of other free browsers that are vastly superior..”
http://www.killie6.com/ – “… Being web developers we find it increasingly frustrating that we are unable to use some of the new useful features that CSS3 incorporates
due to the large amount of people still using Internet Explorer 6..”
http://www.stopie6.org/ – “…aimed at convincing people to dismiss their old, obsolete, buggy browser (the actual list of defects goes on and on).”
http://browsehappy.com/ – “… Internet Explorer can make your computer unsafe…”
http://idroppedie6.com/ – “Are you sick of wasting money and time developing for a dead browser? Declare your independence!”
So many parties are restless about the state of web browsing, and rather than wait for Microsoft to get its act together, they take it upon themselves to do something about it. It doesn’t really stop with the viral websites. Every few months or so you’ll find a blog post like mine that details how the author has had it with IE (IE6 usually) and that he has resolved to drop support for the browser completely.
So help kill, stop and bring down IE6! FTW!
